Saxonian thriller

Jeffrey Kruger wins once again in Volkswagen Golf Cup but despite the fact fans couldn’t complain on lack of action during the second race on Sachsenring. Most of the positions were a big unknown since the very end, while the temper and emotions were out of reach. There were two safety car periods and a lot of action.

Kruger was once again the fastest during the start and after the first corner he was a confident leader, though behind his back it was really hot – Dylan Pereira, Michał Gadomski and Andre Gies touched with each other and one of the Golf’s was even flying few centimeters over the circuit. In the middle of the grid there was even more fierce battle and Sebastian Arriola and Marcin Jaros didn’t recover from the fight in one piece. The safety car was needed and not all of the drivers sow the yellow flags – Piotr Parys was penalized with a drive-through for overtaking during the yellow flag, which disabled him from gaining 6th position.

When the action restarted two laps later Kruger started to get away from his rivals, but Gies, Gadomski and Pereira went back to the fight for 2nd place. At first it were the Pole and the driver from Luxembourg who were trying to reach the lowest step of the podium, but both of them managed to catch up with Gies, while behind their back it was Simo Muhonen who joined the fight. The maneuver of the weekend would be Gadomski’s attack on Gies and the counterattack of the second one, after which two Golf’s went wheel-to-wheel through the three next corners.

Finally the German defended his first podium finish in the Cup. The third driver to cross the finish line was Gadomski, which made him the faster Pole this weekend. No changes appeared in the back also, especially that just before the checkered flag the safety car went out once again – after the incident of Gosia Rdest and Alexandr Artemyev. The finish was quite calm on the further positions – Pereira was 4th, before Simo Muhonen, Marcus Fluch and Kevin Metzner. Despite the crash, Gosia Rdest finished 8th and the top 10 was closed by Bartosz Palusko and Adam Rzepecki.

Quotes after second race on Sachsenring:
Andre Gies: – It is a great feeling to reach the podium during the round in Germany. It was a tough race and a very hard fight. We changed our positions many times, but I was able to win each of them. I am really satisfied and the whole weekend was just marvelous.
Jeffrey Kruger: – Few of us knew the track before the weekend, but it was pretty fine to know it. The second win was fought really hard and the race was great. Through the whole distance I took care of the car and the tires, which was exhausting not only physically, but also mentally. I scored a lot of points and I am really happy.
Michał Gadomski: This track really reminds me of the Nurburgring, there is also a one proper racing line and besides that the venue is really demanding on the front right tire. I took a lesson from the first battle and saved my tires. The beginning was very impressive and we touched with Dylan in the first corner. Later on I have tried to catch up with Andre Gies, but the safety car spoiled my pace.
Dylan Pereira: – It was a really tough battle, the essence of racing. Together with Andre and Michał we fought through the whole distance and finally I finished on the 4th place. However, I hope during next races I will be able to win those kinds of battles.
