Kruger wins again

Jeffrey Kruger is finding himself really well on the Sachsenring venue and was able to achieve yet one more success winning the first race of Volkswagen Golf Cup. This time however, the driver from South Africa had more work to do behind the wheel and for a while we had a really fierce battle between him and Dylan Pereira.

Kruger won the start and easily maintained his first place after the first corner. On the further meters the leader of the Cup was trying to run away from the chasing drivers, but the safety car caused by Marcin Jaros’ problems reduced his pace which gave Pereira a chance. The driver from Luxembourg was really close to the yellow Golf, but at the end of the day Kruger ran away and crossed the finish line with a big advantage over the closest rival.

The top 3 was closed by Marcus Fluch, who was driving pretty much alone – the Swede was too far to think about winning the race, but his advantage over the closest Michał Gadomski was big enough to drive safely. The best from the Polish drivers Gadomski had to worry about his position though, as behind his car was Gosia Rdest. The only female driver on the grid was flying today and gained the 5th place just after the start, later on she was chasing Gadomski. In some corners they had a very nice, fierce battle.

Behind the back of those drivers was Andre Gies, but the German was unable to keep the pace of the top 5. The seventh place went to Kevin Metzner, just before Adam Rzepecki, Simo Muhonen and Bartosz Palusko, who was the last driver from the top 10. It wasn’t lucky race for Piotr Parys, who lost the second place after a drive-through penalty for a wrong starting position. At the end of the day, this year’s debutant finished the race on the 16th place, one spot in front of Jerzy Dudek.

Today drivers will face one more race of the Volkswagen Golf Cup – the finale of the weekend is scheduled for 5:10 p.m.

To those fans, who won’t be able to show up during the competition near Chemnitz, we would like to remind that the rivalry on the first Volkswagen Golf Cup round can be also seen via Internet live broadcast, available at the following link: http://volkswagengolfcup.pl/index.php/live-stream/

Quotes after first race on Sachsenring:

Gosia Rdest: – The race was good. As soon as on the first corner I found myself on the 5th place and I was able to keep it and cross the finish line on the same spot. There were few chances to attack, but Michał Gadomski was defending really well and at the end of the day he was 4th. We have a really hot weekend here, so it is not easy, but I am very happy with my place and I hope the next race will be equally good.
Jeffrey Kruger: – It was a good race for me. On the beginning Dylan was pushing hard, but luckily I managed to get away from him and save my tires, which have a really difficult time here. We had a good strategy and we are hoping for a replay of the result afternoon, but we are aware that everything can happen.
Adam Rzepecki: The start of the race was bad for me, but I kept my position. After two or three laps I was behind Jędrzej Szcześniak and after his mistake I managed to overtake him. Mostly I was driving alone, but just before the end one of the rivals had a really good pace and passed me. This was the strategy though – not to enter fights and do the result. I am happy with the 8th place and I hope that afternoon we will be equally good.

Dylan Pereira: – It wasn’t the best of my starts this season as I had a lot of wheel spins, but I kept my 2nd place. Afterwards I had a good pace and tried to push Jeffrey, half-way through he escaped and I wasn’t able to chase him for the win. Anyways, the 2nd place is really good and afternoon, when it gets little cooler, I will fight again for the win.
