Kruger out of reach

Jeffrey Kruger once again proved he is not willing to let go any second and claimed a confident pole for both Volkswagen Golf Cup races on the Sachsenring circuit. The driver from South Africa perfectly read the conditions and to beat his rivals he needed only two timed laps. Dylan Pereira and Michał Gadomski were the ones who were chasing him.

After the Friday one-off Saxony turned out to be very kind for the drivers and the Saturday was accompanied by a holiday sunshine. In the evening the drivers used the slick tires in their Golf GTI’s prepared by Volkswagen Racing Polska and were trying to complete one lap of the venue as fast as possible.

During the first minutes of the session the early pace-setter was Andre Gies, but after few minutes other drivers were catching up with pace and for a while we had many drivers at the top. Everything was pretty sure 13 minutes before the end of the session, when Jeffrey Kruger did a 1:34,179 lap, giving him over 0,6 seconds advantage over Dylan Pereira. As the driver from Luxembourg didn’t manage to improve his pace, he finished the session on 2nd place. The last driver who jumped into top 3 was Michał Gadomski, at the same time being the fastest Pole. Fourth place is the result of Marcus Fluch, who lost nearly a second to Kruger. Behind them, we sow Andre Gies, Piotr Parys and the only female driver on the grid, Gosia Rdest. Meanwhile, the top 10 was closed by Jędrzej Szczęśniak, Adam Rzepecki and Simo Muhonen.

After checking the 2nd best lap times it turned out that Kruger was the most frequent driver from the whole grid and gained pole position for both races. The top 3 was once again closed by Pereira and Gadomski, though we had some rotations in the places further back the grid. Andre Gies overtook Marcus Fluch for 4th place, while Gosia Rdest will start the 2nd race in front of Piotrek Parys. The last drivers from the top 10 were Simo Muhonen, Kevin Metzner and Adam Rzepecki.

Tomorrow drivers will face a battle in two Volkswagen Golf Cup races on the Sachsenring venue. The first of them will start precisely at noon, while the second one will be the weekend finale at 5:10 p.m.

To those fans, who won’t be able to show up during the competition near Chemnitz, we would like to remind that the rivalry on the first Volkswagen Golf Cup round can be also seen via Internet live broadcast, available at the following link: http://volkswagengolfcup.pl/index.php/live-stream/

Quotes after free practice on Sachsenring:

Gosia Rdest: – We are after the qualifying session, which were really good for me. Everything went according to the plan, which let me fought and gather 7th and 6th place before two races tomorrow. I regret a little mistake on the fastest lap, as in one corner my car slid. Anyways, these are good starting positions and I hope for a good race.

Jerzy Dudek: – The grid is very tight, so the same time as I did in the practice gave me only 19th place. It was a good drive though and I didn’t make any major mistake. The track is fantastic, really fast, especially the uphills are really impressive. In some moments it is even mad to drive there, and tomorrow we will see a fierce battle, mostly in the back of the grid.

Jeffrey Kruger: – The qualifying went well, I did two laps and it was all fine. We saved tires and I think tomorrow it will be crucial to take care of them. We are facing two races, during which we will have to fight a lot, but I will do my best and I hope I can finish the race on the same position.

Michał Gadomski: – I managed to do some good laps, which enabled me to finish on the 3th place. Everything according to plan. On the beginning I had some troubles with tires in the back, as I was too optimistic about the pressure. After all it was all fine. Jeffrey is far away, so we have to check the telemetry and seek for some improvement opportunities.
