Muhonen grabs pole position!

The penultimate qualifying session of the Volkswagen Golf Cup season has brought us a few surprises. In a well-known by all drivers circuit Brno the dominant Jeffrey Kruger ended his great momentum, finishing on a far 6th place. The fastest was Simo Muhonen – the Finn quickly set a fast lap beating his rivals, finishing the session on the top.

The weather is quite constant, giving both drivers and fans gathered in the country of our Southern neighbors a lot of holiday pleasure. Under the hot sunshine it turned out that the best lap times were made as soon as during the very first laps, thanks to which the starting grid positions were more or less known since the first minutes of the session.

During that stage the fastest was Simo Muhonen, who achieved a lap time of 2:20,190 seconds. 0,350 seconds behind him finished the fastest of the Poles – Michał Gadomski, overtaking Dylan Pereira who was the last from the top 3. The fourth starting grid was achieved by Andre Gies, before Marcus Fluch and the overall standings leader – Jeffrey Kruger. It is worth to notice that classified on 7th place Piotr Parys lost only 0,016 seconds to the rival from South Africa. The top 10 was closed by Marcin Jaros, Kevin Metzner and Alexandr Artemyev.

This was the end of the rivalry on the Brno circuit for today. The Volkswagen Golf Cup drivers will come back on the venue tomorrow, when they will have to face both races. First of which is scheduled at 10:30 a.m., while the second one at 3:10 p.m.

Quotes after the qualifying session in Brno:

Simo Muhonen: – I was the fastest in the qualifying session, so I am feel very positive about the result. Points will be given tomorrow though, so we need to keep our heads down. I hope for a good start and keep the nice pace, which should give me a chance to run away from my rivals.

Dylan Pereira: – This was quite a tough qualifying session for me. I pushed from the beginning, but it turned out that my tires were not hot enough, which led to few mistakes on the flying lap. Overall, I am quite happy with the top 3 position and I hope during the races I will be able to overtake some drivers.

Marcus Fluch: – The qualifying session didn’t went well for me. I managed to get the 5th result so I am quite happy. More important than the result is the fact that Jeffrey is behind me, so I will do my best to keep it that way until we cross the finish line.

Marcin Jaros: – 8th place in the qualifying session is a very positive result for me, although it might have been even better, as on the fastest laps, during the uphill drive, I made a mistake with a gearbox which cost me quite a lot of time. This is a good sign before tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to gain some positions.
